About

Hi 👋

I’m Dr. Ishan Sharma and I am a family physician with a focused practice in psychotherapy. I am passionate about the practice of psychotherapy and sharing this art with colleagues.

Reflecting on my own medical training experience, I found the opportunities to learn about psychotherapy limited and often lacking in any formal instruction, or grounding in recognized standards of practice, or theory.

I strongly believe that we can do better as a collective. As family physicians, we occupy an essential role within the medical system, being at the front-line and by providing longitudinal patient care.

If you are a family physician passionate about psychotherapy and dedicated to the pursuit of safe and effective practice, I welcome you to join me on my mission to elevate the quality of mental health care provided in the community.

My hope with Primary Care Psychotherapy Alberta, is to create and share the resource for psychotherapy CME, mentorship and case consultation that I wish existed and I would have had access to, earlier in my career.

You can read more about my therapeutic orientation and extensive training by scrolling through to the bottom of the webpage located here.

Mission

My ultimate goal is to increase capacity within the community to more effectively treat mental health concerns.

My hope is that by providing resources to learn foundational psychotherapeutic knowledge and recognized psychotherapeutic techniques, that I can help more family physicians feel confident and competent in providing psychotherapy to their patients who often desperately need such services.

I hope to help improve the standard of mental health care provided to patients within the medical system and to enhance the safe and effective practice of psychotherapy by physicians.

Let's do something big together.

Join my mission to improve the quality of mental health care within the medical system.

You can help be part of the change by using our resources yourself and by spreading this message to colleagues within your community, today.
